We explored the vibrant city of Bucharest, visiting iconic spots like the Palace of the Parliament, Arch of Triumph, Revolution Square, Unirii Square, University Square, and Victory Square!
We explored Vidin, Bulgaria on two wheels!
Thanks to AmaWaterways' amazing bike tours (with bikes right on the ship!), we set off on a scenic ride through the heart of Vidin. We stopped at the impressive Baba Vida Fortress, the best-preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria.
Along the way, we visited the Triangle of Tolerance to see the peaceful coexistence of St. Nikolaus Metropolitan Church, the Osman Pazvantoglu Mosque, and the remains of a 19th-century synagogue.
We passed through the Iron Gate and visited Golubac Fortress, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval fortresses! This stunning 14th-century castle in Serbia sat perched on a cliff, featuring 10 iconic towers that once protected the Danube River. Soaking in the rich history and enjoyed the breathtaking views!
We had planned to hike Belgrade Fortress (Kalemegdan Fortress), visit the National Theater, stroll along Prince Michael Street, and enjoy the atmosphere at the Square of the Republic. However, we decided to switch our scheduled excursion to allow for a bit more free time.
AmaWaterways is incredibly flexible with excursions, which made it so easy to adapt our plans!
Instead, we enjoyed a city tour that included a visit to the largest Serbian Orthodox Church in the world, as well as the Nikola Tesla Museum, where we got to see all of his incredible inventions!
We set off for a hike to Petrovaradin Fortress, famously known as the Gibraltar of the Danube! Originally built to defend against the Ottoman Turks, this fortress now hosts summertime festivals and offers stunning views of the Danube below. We visited the main terrace and snapped a picture by the clock tower for that perfect view of Novi Sad and the river!
On our way back down, we explored the fascinating tunnels and galleries underneath the fortress—what a fun way to learn about its rich history!
We set off to explore the charming city of Pécs, Hungary!
Founded over 2,000 years ago by the Romans, this city is rich in history and beauty. Our tour took us to the UNESCO-designated Christian Necropolis, where we saw the stunning St. Peter’s Basilica, the main Catholic cathedral, along with its intriguing catacombs.
We also strolled through Széchenyi Square, the heart of Old Town Pécs, and visited the iconic Mosque of Pasha Qasim the Victorious—one of the city’s beloved symbols!
We disembarked in one of my most favorite places in the world—Budapest! I was beyond excited to visit the stunning Hungarian Parliament Building and soak in the rich history and beauty of this incredible city.
